Lesson Learned...

This will be a quick story about how I learned what NOT to do with NEW products and a Friday night plans....

Being so so ready to try out all of my new products I ordered off of www.curlmart.com I rush home from work KNOWING I have Friday night plans! I figured I have about two hours to shower, do my hair, and get dressed and so I decided I wanted to be super sexy and NOW was the time to use my products and try something new with my hair! SMH!!! Someone should of slapped me for THAT thought!

As I stood in the mirror on the verge of tears after having to WASH my hair THREE times because I had NO idea how to use these products I have in front of me! Lapse of Judgment on my part! I had about 45mins left before I had to be at the show, conditioner in my hair and about 5 different products on the counter...by that point I was willingly to shave my head just to be done with my hair! I had to pull myself together and do SOMETHING with my hair! Standing there staring at my reflection I finally had my epiphany...DO NOT RUSH THROUGH NEW PRODUCTS! Well DUH you would think I would know that getting a college education and all BUT obviously not! I can laugh at myself NOW all after the fact but at that moment I was a ticking time bomb ready to blow! We as people think that just because other people do things and make them seem super easy and have wonderful results we can do it too with no problems but we never stop and think about HOW they got the results! Trial and error! Had I took the time to actually figure out what products work best and HOW, I might of had a rocking hair do' at the bar feeling fresh and sexy instead of my soggy lopsided fro' feeling like a doofus...

LESSON LEARNED: When your in a rush and need a fly hair do' stick to the products you are familiar with! Two hours til showtime might NOT the best time to be trying new products and experimenting!

MORE PRODUCT REVIEWS!!!!! Yay!!!

Well since I have limited supplies at reach I have decided to order products and try them out! I ordered my products from www.curlmart.com and I received them in 5 days!!! I was super excited to try them out...I will say not ALL products yielded good results but you win some you lose some! I wanted to take a picture of the box with the cute neatly packed bottles BUT I was so anxious I ripped it open without thinking twice! Sorry! Here are the products I have tried thus far...

Don't be fooled by the small looking jar!

  • Burnt Sugar Pomade by Oyin-   first off it smell very warm and inviting like fresh baked cookies! I use it for my twist outs and it gives it shine and a long lasting nice smell. Kept my hair soft but with a light hold that lasted awhile. I thought it would be like a butter but it is very soft and does spread through the hair easily. THUMBS UP!
  • Shine and Define by Oyin- This product was very deceiving but it is very light and airy. It has OK hold. I haven't used it for my twist outs yet but that with be coming up next! The smell is OK and I did not get much actually "shine" from it but better luck next time...
  • Oyin Juice and Berries-  well...a very interesting product...it smells like actual juice and berries! It is a very light spray that can be used in replacement of Aloe Vera juice and water. I use it daily to awaken my dry flat hair when I wake it. It does give my curls a little pop pop in the morning lol. I do plan on ordering more soon! Thumbs Up!

  • Carol's Daughter Hair Milk The Original- I don't know whether I just used it WRONG or what BUT i am scared to use this product again! It COMPLETELY dried my hair out! My hair felt crunchy and stiff. Curls weren't at their best or even happy looking. The smell was strong something like lemon grass. I thought to maybe add some type of oil in it to help BUT as a stand alone product...that would be a negative! THUMBS DOWN!!! Some people have had great results...just not me and my hair.  Don't knock it until you try it though!

Locally Purchased Products I have Tried!!!

I would like to once again Thank my Co-Blogger TOI she suggested I use Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose as a Deep Conditioner...I will say I am IN LOVE with it! My hair was soft, my curls were springy and happy and it was the best!!!!! I applied it and left it overnight and rinsed it out in the morning and my hair just felt lighter! It was GREAT! I then added some olive oil to it and tried it again and the results were even better!!! I would not have thought to use it for DC purposes but I am super happy about the results!!! Thumbs way UP!!!

Another lovely product added to my shopping list is Yes to Carrots!!!  I have passed by it in my local Target about 6 times before making an effort to look at the ingredients and check up on it via internet. I have heard some great things about it and decided to try it for myself and I will say I do like it and how my hair feels. The bottle is pretty big so I didn't mind paying the 7.99 for it. It is very creamy and has a nice smell that lingers for a little while. I  have not used it as a detangling conditioner but I feel it is slippery enough to get the job done! Definite THUMBS UP!!! I am anxious to try Yes to Cucumbers! that will be my purchase after I run out of this product...a few weeks! lol

Showdown with the Tangle Teezer...

Well I know there has been some buzz in the streets about the notorious Tangle Teezer and its negative effects on the natural hair strands BUT I will say I waited to detangle my hair for about a week just to put the Tangle Teezer to the test and see what it is really made of...

I lathered my hair really good with the Hello Hydration in the shower to make sure its extra slippery and started to section my hair off into smaller sections to make sure I get all of the kinks out...

Very little shedding and this is after about 9 days of only finger detangling

I section into about 10 sections, detangle and twist right after to prevent retangling.

Once I finished my entire head I rinse out the conditioner and apply a leave in treatment....

It was a very simple and very quick process and I only do once a week or so and so far I am still a Tangle Teezer fan!

Have VS Have Not's

First off I would like to say CONGRADS to my Co-Blogger Toi on making it one year!!!! Hooray for her! She actually was the one who got me started on the RIGHT path to natural so I owe my curls to her!!!! KISSSSSES!!!! lol OK now back to the actual post...

Now you may wonder what do I mean Have VS Have nots? Well the "Haves" would be the people WITH relaxers and the "HAVE NOTS" would be all of us lovely ladies. Now don't get me wrong...I have had a relaxer for majority of my life so I do not knock anyone with a relaxer more power to you! Once I tell you my story you will better understand where I am coming from...

Most people know me for having super straight, colored, or some kind of edgy hair style AND once I decided to start my transition I wore weave for months and months and that seemed to be more excepted than when I actually did my BC and went 100% natural. Long story short for some reason I have been getting negative comments from people that I have known for awhile but they chose to get a relaxer. Once again I say I do not knock anyone that gets a relaxer but it just isn't for ME.

I have been getting comments such as "Oh don't you want to get a relaxer and have silky hair and not them naps?" "You don't know what you are missing without a relaxer!" "Can you even comb your hair?" Now I did manage to SOMEWHAT keep my cool but it made me pose the question "What do you have against natural hair or hair different from yours?" I mean how is MY hair hurting or effecting anyone else daily life to where they just HAVE to make a negative comment? I have received many of positive comments from men, other naturals and people of other races but it just puzzles me that other people of the African American race can be so negative and down grading to anyone embracing the hair that grows out of their scalp?

Is their an unspoken fued between Naturals and Relaxed that I didnt know about???
